Northeast Regional SEAC Mini-Conference: Special Education Highlight On Saturday, February 7, the Northeast Colorado Regional Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) hosted its first ever mini-conference designed for parents of children in special education and the professionals who support them. As a sponsor through our Community Partnership Fund and a presenting partner, The Arc of Northeast Colorado was honored to join this important day of learning. Two featured sessions highlighted practical, family-centered tools that support student success across ages and abilities. Leticia Arguello was scheduled to present on self-determination tools, sharing accessible strategies to help individuals identify supports, make decisions, and set and achieve personal goals. Kandice Kramer led an advocacy-focused session that equipped families with practical guidance on navigating the IEP process, communicating effectively with school teams, and confidently advocating for their children’s educational needs. We are grateful for the contributions of partners and presenters, including representatives from the Colorado Department of Education, Northeast Colorado Health Department, Centennial Mental Health Center, Inc., Northeast Colorado BOCES, Morgan RE-3 Fort Morgan School District, and RE-1 Valley Schools, This mini-conference was a powerful reminder that when families and professionals come together with a shared purpose, geography does not have to be a barrier. We extend our sincere thanks to the Northeast Regional SEAC for making this virtual event possible and for continuing to invest in informed, collaborative, and inclusive special education practices throughout rural Northeast Colorado.

  • Unified in Action: Northeastern Colorado Unified Basketball Tournament

On the morning of Saturday, February 14, the gyms in Brush, Colorado came alive with energy, teamwork, and connection as schools from across the region gathered for the Northeastern Colorado Unified Basketball Tournament. Teams representing Brush High School, Sterling High School, Eastern Coyotes, Windsor High School, Northridge High School, and Greeley West High School took the court—competing, collaborating, and showing what inclusion in action truly looks like. We truly believe Unified Basketball is a gateway to inclusion within schools and communities. It changes perceptions. It builds belonging. It creates leadership opportunities for individuals of all abilities.  Throughout the tournament, the gyms were filled with encouragement and authentic sportsmanship. Athletes competed hard, supported one another, and embodied the spirit of Unified play—celebrating teamwork as much as points on the scoreboard. The sense of pride was unmistakable as teams left the court feeling accomplished, connected, and yes, probably a little tired in the very best way. Events like this remind us that when students are given the opportunity to play together, barriers fall, confidence grows, and communities become stronger. Unified Basketball isn’t just a game—it’s a movement toward belonging, leadership, and shared success.

  • Our Why: The Legacy We Carry

A Message from the Executive Director Our events and inclusive programs are rooted in a powerful history of advocacy. In the mid-20th century, institutions like Willowbrook State School exposed the urgent need for dignity, rights, and community inclusion for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Leaders within The Arc movement—whose legacy continues through the Colorado Arc Network and arc Thrift Stores—helped drive lasting change toward community-based support and human rights. Today, that legacy lives on through everything we do.  Each advocacy support, fashion show, inclusive sports program, and community event creates visibility,  belonging, and opportunity—celebrating people with IDD  as valued members of our communities. Through joy, connection, and advocacy, we continue building a future rooted in inclusion and shared humanity.
